As summer begins to fade, Labor Day is upon us and the three-day weekend ahead bursts with events celebrating summer's end and the near arrival of autumn. From festivals to cultural happenings, there's plenty to do. So, mark your calendars and let's explore exciting Labor Day events in the Triad and nearby North Carolina areas:


John Coltrane International Jazz & Blues Festival

September 2-3, High Point, NC

Now in its 12th year, this annual Labor Day weekend festival showcases an array of contemporary, modern, and mainstream jazz talents. Throughout its journey, the hosting organization has collaborated with leaders from various sectors to honor the legacy of the renowned saxophonist and composer, John Coltrane.


North Carolina Apple Festival

September 1-4, Hendersonville, NC

A staple for over 70 years, this festival presents a lively street fair along the historic Main Street. At the event, you can enjoy live music, explore arts and crafts, taste delicious apples, take in special exhibits, savor diverse foods, find events for the kids, and so much more. And don't miss the highlight: the King Apple Parade, a Labor Day tradition.


African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County

September 2-3, Raleigh, NC

Every year, this event honors African American culture, bringing it to life through art, music, delectable cuisine, and a sense of community. Joining the festivities are local, national, and international artists, performers, food vendors, and business owners - all contributing to the vibrant showcases.


Mile High Kite and Craft Festival

Sept. 2-3, Beech Mountain

Held at over 5,000 feet of elevation, the town's meadow provides an ideal setting for kite flying. Throughout the festival weekend, there will be much kite flying, followed by an all-ages street dance in the evening. Sunday brings the excitement of awards for the grandest, tiniest, and most creatively adorned kites. Beyond this, activities encompass parachute kite races, face painting, as well as an array of craft and food vendors.
