Kaleideum Downtown, formed by the merger of The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem and Sciworks, is an interactive museum of arts, sciences, and exploration. Located off South Liberty St. and Brookstown Ave., the museum was created to reimagine learning and better meet the needs of our diverse community by providing more access to informal science discovery, cultural experiences, and learning and building life skills through play.
Kaleideum offers a number of different activities for children, including storytelling in the children’s library, a climbing lobby, and even a child-sized Krispy Kream Doughnut factory and a Food Lion supermarket. Other attractions include the Enchanted Forest, where kids can immerse in a world of folklore, fantasy and fairy tales; the Prop Shop, where future thespians can experience the backstage of a theater and use tools to create props, puppets and set pieces; and Toy Time, replete with folk toys that demonstrate the effects of gravity, inertia, rhythm, harmonic motion, and mechanics.
Kaleideum Downtown welcomes families to come and play and is open on weekends. Tickets can be purchased at the site. For more information on general admission and pricing, click here. Advance registration is required for groups.
